Embraer has announced successful tests of its Phenom 300E and Praetor 600 aircraft using 100% neat sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). These tests, where one engine ran on 100% SAF, took place at Embraer’s Melbourne facility and involved collaboration with engine and fuel system suppliers, including Honeywell Aerospace, Parker, Pratt & Whitney Canada, and Safran. Embraer’s aircraft are currently approved to use a blend of up to 50% SAF mixed with conventional jet fuel, following ASTM International specifications. However, potential future specifications allowing for fuels containing up to 100% SAF can further reduce emissions by utilizing sustainable, non-fossil-based sources.
The use of SAF is a critical part of Embraer’s commitment to sustainability. This milestone represents Embraer’s dedication to adapting its current products to be as sustainable as possible and promoting SAF adoption in the aviation industry. SAF is a renewable energy source capable of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional jet fuel, aligning with Embraer’s goals of achieving carbon-neutral operations by 2040 and supporting the aerospace sector in reaching a net-zero emissions target by 2050.
