GA-ASI uses Avenger MQ-20A System to Fly AI operated U.S. military aircraft

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) has flight-tested an Artificially Intelligent (AI) operated military aircraft using the company-owned Avenger MQ-20A Unmanned Aircraft System. The unmanned military Aerial Vehicle was using an Artificially Intelligent (AI) pilot deployed on an operationally relevant, Open Mission Systems (OMS) software stack. The flight was conducted by General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) on Sept. 12, 2022.

The GA-ASI Avenger’s completely autonomous flight was flying using an Artificially Intelligent (AI) pilot for close to 30 minutes as a part of a cooperating live, virtual, and constructive UAS swarm. The flight was performed as part of GA-ASI’s ongoing commitment and investment into the development of advanced autonomy of AI and Machine Learning (ML) for UAS. The recent flight was another in an ongoing series of autonomous flights performed by GA-ASI using internal research and development funding to prove out important AI/ML concepts for advanced UAS.
