20 May 2020: Airbus recently inaugurated a brand new 270000 square foot facility to produce both the A220-100 and the A220-300 versions. Airbus had announced the plans for opening of the facility in Mobile, Alabama back in October 2019.

With the completion of this second final assembly line for A220, Airbus leaves an important footprint in the US production capabilities. The new facility has five primary assembly stations where major airframe component assemblies come together for a completed aircraft.

Apart from this, Airbus also welcomes the first component assemblies destined to become an A220 for JetBlue. JetBlue is the second LCC to receive the US built A220s. It will be delivered by late 2020.

Excited to star work in the new facility, the President of A220 USA and Head of A220 Program in Mobile, Paul Gaskell said, "The team is excited to welcome a new customer. It's a strong endorsement from JetBlue in this challenging time."

Airbus had started producing the A220s in Mobile since August 2019, in the existing Final Assembly hanger built for A320. But now with the opening of a dedicated FAL for A220, the Airbus production site in Alabama is doubled thereby solidifying Airbus' stand as a true global aircraft manufacturer.

The primary production facility of A220 is located in Mirabel, Canada where dedicated functions like engineering expertise and support functions are carried out.
