American to provide Intelsat’s high-speed Wi-Fi on nearly 500 regional flights

American Airlines, a frontrunner in high-speed inflight connectivity among domestic airlines, is set to enhance its customers’ connected experience further. Over the next two years, the airline plans to introduce high-speed Wi-Fi on its dual-class regional aircraft, expanding its collaboration with Intelsat for the installation of new Wi-Fi capability on nearly 500 regional aircraft starting next year.

Currently providing high-speed Wi-Fi on over 900 mainline aircraft, American aims to surpass 1,400 satellite-connected aircraft, including its regional fleet, after the planned updates are implemented. The airline acknowledges the rapid evolution of inflight connectivity technology in the aviation industry and seeks to leverage Intelsat’s Electronically Steered Array (ESA) antennae.
