‘AN/APR-39E (V)2’ – Northrop Grumman’s Next-Gen radar threat warning sensor:
5 March, 2019:The US Army has awarded Northrop Grumman Corporation for developing AN/APR-39E (V) 2. It is a next gen radar threat warning sensor which will provide protection against the latest radio frequency guided weapons.
There is a looming threat of high mobile anti-aircraft weapons which pose a worldwide threat to aviators in contested space. This new radar sensor has the ability to detect broad range of threats across a wider spectrum range.
Describing the sensor, Brent Toland, vice president, land and avionics C4ISR, Northrop Grumman said “The AN/APR-39E (V)2 will see more threats, including millimetre wave radars, at greater range. That advanced level of protection is critical to our customers’ mission success.”
The AN/APR-39(V) 2 works in combination with Northrop Grumman’s digital receiver exciter (DRE) architecture thereby providing a new level of precision in detecting, locating and identifying threats.
Salient Features of DRE
1. The DRE also known as the digital receiver exciter has novel digital signal processing algorithm
2. The AN/APR-39(V) 2 radar warning receiver and other electronic warfare systems have DRE architecture employed on them.
3. This gives rapid updates and help to stay abreast of any threat.
Today the AN/APR-39(V) 2 also known as Modernized Radar Warning Receiver is protecting many aircraft across the world.
