Leonardo’s single engine TH-119 helicopter receives FAA IFR certification

Leonardo’s single engine TH-119 helicopter receives FAA IFR certification:

19 July 2019: Leonardo's TH-119 helicopter has obtained the IFR supplemental type certification by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The TH-119 is the only single-engine helicopter in decades to meet present IFR requirements, permitting pilots to operate the aircraft safely in low visibility and challenging weather conditions, thanks to advanced avionics by Genesys Aerosystems and redundant helicopter flight systems.

The TH-119 is Leonardo's bid to swap the US Navy's fleet of ageing TH-57 training helicopters. IFR certification is an important requirement for the US Navy's training helicopter replacement programme which is also known as Advanced Helicopter Training System TH-73, formerly TH-XX. If chosen, up to 130 TH-119s will be built at Leonardo's current FAA Part 21 production facility in Philadelphia where all AW119s worldwide are made.
