Aerostar completes 15 years in commercial aircraft MRO

7 December 2019:Aerostar S.A. started its new venture of commercial aircraft Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul on 6th December 2004.

The first aircraft that Aerostar's Bacau base conducted a heavy check was for a FlyGlobespan Boeing 737-300 Classic.

Presently, Aerostar has become firmly established as a centre for excellence for commercial aircraft MRO. In these fifteen years, the company has performed work on a variety of aircraft types but is now firmly focussed on the Boeing 737 Classic and NG families and the Airbus A319/320/321 Ceo and Neo families.

Aerostar has also overhauled aircraft from a wide customer base of more than 50 operators, mainly from within Europe, but also from Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Over 700 heavy checks have been carried out during this period.

Initially, the commercial aircraft MRO work was performed at the production hangars previously employed for the conversion of Mig-21 Lancers for the Romanian Air Force. However, in 2012 a new art MRO facility was added to extend the capacity to 6/7 bays.

A new MRO hanger is currently under construction and will be completed by the end of 2019 at Iasi International Airport, some 130km north east of Bacau. This will add a further 3-4 aircraft bays.

Director Ioan Dan Velescu said, "Aerostar has come a long way on its civil MRO journey and we are justifiably proud of our achievements over 15 years in this highly competitive sector. But the opening next year of our new facility at Iasi shows that Aerostar is not standing still. With a relentless focus on quality, on-time delivery and customer service we are looking forward to continued growth over the next decade and more. We thank all those airlines and operators who have placed their trust in us over the years and look forward to continue to serve their MRO needs."
