GKN Aerospace, a leading global aerospace technology firm, has announced the successful delivery of the first shipset of F-35 Lightning II wheels and brake assemblies serviced and maintained at its GKN Fokker landing gear facility in The Netherlands. This milestone marks the commencement of their contract to provide maintenance and servicing for wheels, brakes, and strut assemblies for the F-35 fleet in Europe. GKN Aerospace’s Fokker business was awarded the contract by the Joint Program Office due to its extensive experience in landing gear maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) for other platforms such as the F-16 and the NH-90 helicopter. The company’s expertise in this field positions them as a reliable partner for the F-35 program.
In addition to maintenance activities, GKN Aerospace’s landing gear business is actively involved in the design and manufacturing of critical components for the F-35. This includes the F-35 arresting gear and the development of the F-35 composite landing gear drag brace. By contributing to the design and production of these essential parts, GKN Aerospace plays a crucial role in ensuring the performance and safety of the F-35 aircraft.
