Airbus launches new innovation centre in China

21 February, 2019: Airbus has inagurated it’s Innovation Centre in Shenzhen, China. The Airbus China Innovation Centre (ACIC) has been operational since early 2018 and has been focusing on designing, testing, and certifying new technologies relating to Hardware Lab, Connectivity, Manufacturing Innovation, Cabin Experience, and Urban Air Mobility.

Airbus also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Shenzhen Municipal Commerce Bureau to explore Urban Air Mobility (UAM) solutions in Shenzhen at the ceremony. Both the parties will cooperate with each other to speed up the R&D, application and industrialisation of Urban Air Mobility (UAM) in Shenzhen. Airbus aims to increase the development of the local mobility ecosystem and promote the UAM solutions fitting the local transportation needs with extended regional partners.

ACIC is on a mission to fully leverage local advantages including talents, enterprises and ecosystem. They will combine it with Airbus expertise in aerospace, to identify, explore and accelerate breakthroughs in technologies, business models and new growth opportunities.

The centre also commits to finding out the next big change to transform the aerospace sector while tapping into the local talent, technology and partner pool which will further develop Airbus’ innovation capabilities to shape the future of flight.

The Airbus China Innovation Centre is Airbus’ first innovation centre in Asia and second worldwide after A3 in Silicon Valley.
