F-35 sustainment contract given to Scandinavian Avionics and Terma:
18 February, 2019: Avionics Test Centre Denmark (ATCD) formed by Terma and Scandinavian Avionics in collaboration with the US has been given the responsibility of maintenance of avionics (16 components) for the F-35 fighter aircraft by the US Department of Defense F-35 joint programme office. They will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of avionics components from 2021-2025. Its sustainment work will be done in Denmark.
ATCD will be in charge of regional repair and maintenance of avionics components within Europe from 2025.
Søren E Petersen, VP Military sales, Scandinavian Avionics said, “Scandinavian Avionics are very proud that “Avionics Test Centre Denmark” has been selected to be partner in the F-35 Global support and maintenance chain. This is the result of an outstanding cooperation between Terma and Scandinavian Avionics as well as with the Danish Fighter programme office and other Danish authorities.”
The Danish companies Scandinavian Avionics and Terma submitted a joint response, to a so-called Request for Information (RFI), on maintenance of F-35 components in April 2018. The two companies established Avionics Test Centre Denmark for this purpose which has now been selected to carry out the task of maintenance of avionics for the F-35 fighter aircraft.
The ATCD has won parts of RFI’s second procurement of F-35 components repair to be published. Approximately, 60 percent of all the F-35 components published for repair are covered under the initial RFI (Tier 1) together with the RFI for Tier 2. The remaining which will be approximately 40 percent will be published among the F-35 partnership countries later this year and in 2020.
Major General Henrik R. Lundstein, Director of the Fighter Aircraft Programme in Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization (DALO) said, “It is very satisfying that the Danish Defence’ close collaboration with the industrial consortium consisting of Scandinavian Avionics and Terma has resulted in Danish industry now being awarded the first major F-35 maintenance contract. This shows that the Danish defence industry is able to compete with the largest companies in the market on competitive terms, i.e. price, time, delivery security, and quality.”
